• Multi-layer MXenes were used as solid lubricants coatings for rolling bearings. Comparison with molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) and diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings. Bearing washer wear was substantially reduced by MXene Transfer film formation verified on secondary contacts (rolling elements/cage pockets). Service life extension 30 55% compared to MoS DLC, respectively. Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal carbides, nitrides, carbonitrides, known MXenes, are a growing class of 2D materials, which offer great lubrication ability low friction applications due their weakly bonded multi-layer structure tribo-layer self-lubricating characteristics.
